Can you believe in Karma AND Bad Things Happen to Good People?

I’ve always believed that what goes around comes around and during my lifetime have seen many cases that I believed were the universes way of re-dressing the balance. I believe that if you are a good person and lead your life as well as you can, not doing harm to others unless you can absolutely help it then you generally, on balance, get back what you give.

So, how do you rationalise when life seems to want to kick you down at every turn. If you want to take the good as being payback for being generally altruistic then surely you have to assess who in the cosmos you pissed off when bad things knock your door down with a vengeance? I’m not going to whine about the RL situations that have happened in the last 24 hours but I am going to dress up, focus on the good stuff I have in both lives and keep living the SL dream!

Hair Fair 2

One of the good things that happened to me recently was placing as a runner up in the Hair Fair Photo contest which afforded me 24 hours early, lag free, super shopping access to the Hair Fair sims and boy did I make use of it! I’ve banged on now for weeks about Hair Fair as it really is one of the best organised, laid out and spectacular events on the grid and I was so lucky and happy to have that early access.

I am sure you will be seeing lots of blogs focussing on the hair over the next few days. My favourites were from Lelutka, Exile and the one pictured from Lamb and I will be showing off the others over the next few days.

Gizza are coming out with so much awesomeness for the summer – I love, love, LOVE this romper from them which is available in the mainstore in a variety of colours and patterns and I teamed them up with the absolutely adorable new wedge shoes from Reign available at The Seasons Story.

I really hope things start to improve for my real life situation but if they don’t….there’s always, always….SHOPPING!

  1. I believe things happen in order for us to turn the pages of our lives.
What may seem like hurdles are actually proof that despite everything we are alive and we are here!
Smile and think what wonderful things we have both in our SL and our RL .
    Big hugs Kess

  2. You look stunning, Kess! LeLutka, Exile and Lamb have my favorite hair styles as well (now I’m *finally* through all the demo boxes, which took a day and a half!) Really loving Besom’s creations too.

Your thoughts on karma and the universe redressing balance are thought-provoking and they remind me of my longtime favorite philosophers, Abraham-Hicks. Not sure if you’re into (non-religiously) spiritual interests, but their teachings might resonate with you as they did with me. Heady stuff! 🙂

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and RL troubles will give you a well-deserved break! ♥

  3. I do not believe in karma. I know bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. You can open any newspaper on any day of any year and see dozens of examples of karma doing absolutely nothing right. Donald Trump’s existence is pretty definitive proof that karma does not exist as are the recent premature deaths of lovely, kind and wonderful people here in SL.

I am an atheist, so I am comfortable with the random crapshoot that life is. At least I am not wracking my brains trying to figure out what I did wrong to deserve whatever bad thing comes my way. However, I was raised a Baptist, so perhaps I can address where that idea comes from biblically.

Romans 8:28 says “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” This is where people get the idea that “everything happens for a reason” but that verse is not saying that God sent you an Express Mail package of crap. It means God gave you the strength and grace to learn to live with crap and the support of friends and family to sustain you. Yes, some people interpret it differently, but that is an interpretation that envisions a small-minded, petty god. If you are going to believe in god; at least make him a decent one.

  4. I personally don’t think karma exists, as such. I think you’re basically right tho Kess – if you make your way through the world peacefully and with a good attitude, you’re going to generally have a better time than most other folks. It doesn’t stop horrible things happening to good people and you’re having a rotten time at the moment. On the up side, you have family and friends (in both worlds) who love you very much and admire the grace with which you are dealing with such a lot of shit x
