During the 70’s my parents followed the fashion of homebrewing. The airing cupboard was full of fermenting buckets and bottles and stuff that smelled frankly terrible. I remember thinking “they are really gonna drink this stuff at some point?????” The beer making didn’t last long but the wine making went on for longer. We used to have wine with Sunday dinner and even as children we were allowed a small glass. You might think that exciting for a 10 year old and it was…until home wine making. It was suddenly like being force-fed parsnips (which I detest) mashed with cough medicine (which I also detested). Now, as an adult I rely solely on the supermarket for my wine…they stock so much it would be rude not to!
