feel it.

I stick a hand in,
a foot.
Sucks like quicksand.

But I try
“It’s so close”
“Just a step away.”
Hear happy, twinkling voices
on the up side.

But
too afraid
to put my head in first.

Too afraid
I will not be able
to breathe.

So close to the border,
we all live.
But not quite in.

No–I will not be passive, content with such a life!

So I take a breath,
and dive in.
