The Age of Entitlement

As always, my blog is where I get to shoot from the hip if I choose to. This is going to be one of those straight-talking posts. Not a rant…hopefully, but my opinion on what I’m seeing more and more in Second Life. Over entitled, spoiled, whiny-ass, allegedly grown adults sucking the fun out of SL for everyone else! The age of entitlement is alive and well and living in Second Life it seems, and, has had a phenomenal ‘growth’ month. There have been several big events and anniversaries in Second Life over the last few weeks which have meant high demand for entry onto sims.

Second Life seems to have more than its fair share of ‘Veruca Salt’s’ who expect everything, are never happy and feel the solution is to share their frustration at not getting their demands with anyone who’ll listen…not just once…but over and over and over again like a stuck record.

Guess what? This is Second Life…you aren’t entitled to shit. Read the Terms of Service, about all you’re entitled to is to not be harassed. You’re not even entitled to log in – that can be taken away from you at any time by Linden Labs. Nowhere does it say ‘Hey precious princess, you are entitled to get on any full sim you want to whenever you want to and get lots of free stuff whenever you want.’  I can hear them now coming to that realisation and wailing ‘but, it’s not fair…I want! I want! I want’…you know, the sort of behaviour that would have had me figuratively slapping the shit out of my children when they were young…and these are grown adults apparently.

You know what’s not fair? Children born with diseases that kill them before they see a year old. Natural disasters that wipe out whole towns and villages. Children who are mutilated through FGM by the people that are supposed to love them the most. Famine…War…Death, Birth defects.  Those are things that aren’t fair. You not being able to get on a sim is an inconvenience at the very most. Some of these people need to take that as a sign to use the cross at the top of their screens and go get some perspective.

About the Stuff:

Talking about anniversaries and in demand events, there’s still time to shop at 6 Republic which is celebrating it’s second anniversary in Second Life with the theme of European cities. This year fashion has been included in the event for the first time and I’m wearing the Fame Femme Italy dress from the gacha which includes several colours of the dress and 2 rare pattern version. There’s also matching shoes that I’m not wearing but I am using the travel bag that’s also available in the gacha set.

  1. Lol you took the words right out of my mouth!!!
I was talking with a friend last night and we both said there needs to be more fun.
The intensity of some folk and their Diva ways is amazing.
I know TOS back to front after my very public loss of accounts. Even from that and my experiences people still haven’t familiarised themselves.
You own nothing. Nothing is yours and yep one flick of a switch you don’t exist.

  3. Great post Kess and well said, I’m with you, I often wonder how people behave in rl if they act the way I’ve seen in some group chats in SL, it seriously is go into the real world, learn some manners, learn some patience and learn to appreciate what you have.

    1. perfectly said Jules. The other thing I just thought of it this…there’s lots of stuff I think in real life, about people and situations at work for example. If I actually SAID them out loud I’d be in a whole heap of trouble. You’d think it would be easier in a text based forum to have that extra few seconds to think about your reaction etc…but apparently not for some people. (as an aside I apparently don’t need to say what’s on my mind, my colleagues say I have a very expressive face when it comes to people I think are stupid lol)

  4. I wonder this too, I really was shocked by some chat groups in the last couple weeks. I wonder where these people act like this in real life. I love what you said and it’s a pity people are like this.
