Gardener’s Repose

Good morning!

Back to work today after a lovely long weekend. I’m quite the fan of Mondays so this week I’m a fan of Tuesday but that’s not to say that I’m not happy that it’s another short week ahead. I enjoy my job very much but I also enjoy my time not at work too.

When I first started blogging I looked at several blogs for inspiration. Some of the bloggers I knew and some I didn’t. Meri was one of the bloggers that I knew personally and also set my sights on as ‘the type of blogger I want to be when I grow up’. A couple of years ago Meri took at break from SL and stopped blogging…leaving quite a hole in my daily reading. But she’s back!

I got to thinking about how much has changed in the blogging world since Meri took her break. The changes to Flickr, the rise of Black Dragon as a photography viewer, the mass-movement to Instagram, the ‘sharing’ community on Facebook…

Then I thought about what hasn’t changed, reminded by a post that I saw on Facebook yesterday. There are still far too many bloggers obsessing about what others are doing instead of focusing on what they are doing. I honestly believe that the most successful people in life (real or second) don’t do that. Yes, they look, they admire, they may even gain some inspiration…I know I do, but they don’t spend time thinking about what others are doing ‘wrong’ in their mind. They consider what they can do better or how they can be unique. They have a set idea of what success looks like for them and they work toward that goal. If YOU continue improving, if YOU keep developing, learning and keeping your eye on your goals then you won’t have time to give thought to others you think are less worthy than you of the blogger spots you want.

Look up, not down. That should be your direction of travel.

Anyways, check out Meri’s latest blog…it’s full of egg snobbery and other good stuff!

  1. Hahahaa… Oh Kess, you do make me laugh ‘egg snobbery’ is so on point 😀 And yes tons has changed, I fear I’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg so far. I might take your advice and just keep doing what I’m doing, I have to use Instagram for work and honestly, I’m not a fan… Flickr was a huge shock – massive changes (resulting in me moving tons of pics off platform), and I don’t even know what this ‘Black Dragon’ is yet, but if it’s a better way to do SL photos I’ll have to give it a go, as my blessed little Alienware is about 6 years old now and it’s feeling the pressure. Thanks for the welcome back, it’s truly amazing to see what you personally and all of you bloggers have achieved in the time I’ve been gone. Inspiring! xxx

    1. I think it’s always been there, even when you were around before. You just surround yourself with positive people and I don’t think Facebook was as big a thing as it is now for the SL blogging community. There have always been people that find it easier to blame not getting a blogger spot on a team down to ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ rather than ask themselves what they can do to make sure they get the spot next time. Entitlement v Hard Work is alive and well and has been for a long while in our community. But, that said, I think it’s a very small part…they just make a lot of noise.

      1. Ahh, that kind of thing has always been around you’re right. I’m almost relieved, because sour grapes will be aired and at least the basis of goodwill is still there between most of us x

  2. You are such an inspiration to so many bloggers…more than I think you will ever know. I know that for me, your pictures are stunning and I study them to try and figure out certain aspects of your pictures to improve upon my own work. But its not just your work as a blogger. There’s more. As a blogger manager, you were willing to give me some sound advice after I did not make a team, which I appreciated that so much. I also have so much respect for the way you give back to the blogging community…through Calendar Girls, Calendar Guys and the Home & Garden Calendar…and through BVN. People like you are the ones who inspired me to begin blogging, inspire me to continue blogging and also inspire me to continually look for ways to both grow in my blogging and to give back. Thank you for that. ♥
