SL Calendar Girls – June 2020

Welcome to SL Calendar Girls June 2020 selection.

I wanted to take a couple of minutes to put a more detailed explanation of the process for Calendar Girls. I am getting more and more messages about the process and, as the selection process each month, takes so long, and because I’m generally very busy in SL, I don’t always get the time to answer personally. This is especially true if the answer is already on each of these posts and explained in the group.

Each day approximately 500 images are added to the SL Calendar Girls Flickr group. I moderate this group by accepting the whole queue and then going through the full-size images to decide which ones will appear in the pool. Approximately 50% (250 or so) get accepted to the pool on a daily basis. Only the most exceptional, interesting and exciting images stay in the pool as they are the ones that I want to look at again at the start of the month to make the monthly selection from.  This means that from the 1st of the following month, when I take a very detailed look at all the pics in the pool from the following month, I have around  7500 images to look at. I have to control what appears in the group because 7500 is still hard to go through, it takes me a couple of days with everything else. I don’t begrudge the time…far from it, I enjoy the process…I find lots of new people to follow and gain a tremendous amount of inspiration from these amazing artists. But it is time-consuming and I have to manage my time. There are many good, sometimes very good, images that get added to the group pool that don’t make it into the pool because the pool is for excellent and exceptional photos.

I get asked a lot why the photos don’t appear in the pool. There could be a number of reasons low-quality graphics, overexposed looking images, under-exposed looking images, flipped on their side or too skewed, male avatars in the photo, over editing, photographic setup errors such as broken ankles, body parts poking through mesh, fish-eye effect, morphs….and that’s still not exhaustive. It is never personal.

I used to let every photo added into the pool and if that was still the case and I had 15000 photos to check monthly then Calendar Girls would just not exist anymore. It’s too much to manage to go through that number in one go at the start of the month. So, I introduced the moderating the quality in the pool in order to keep Calendar Girls going.

I hope this gives some insight for people who wonder maybe why their images don’t appear in the group, or in the selection.
