Gold Dust Woman

I was supposed to post this yesterday but I ran out of time before going out in real life last night to see a Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band. It was a Christmas present from my daughter and her husband…a night out for all of us together. I like Fleetwood Mac but wouldn’t say I’m their biggest fan but of course we all know the hits! My favourites were all in there…Songbird, Gypsy, Landslide, Gold Dust Woman and they ended the night with the banging Tusk. The band were phenomenal and I’d have happily paid to see them as a band in their own right and the lead singer sounded so much like Stevie Nicks it was uncanny.

I have a Second Life related story about the song Big Love by Fleetwood Mac. Many moons ago I owned a club in Second Life and a couple who were regulars contacted me about an hour before their Second Life wedding in a panic because their DJ had let them down and asked if I would be able to step in.  I was happy to and quickly asked them for a list of songs they definitely wanted played during the service and after and most crucially for their first dance. They gave me the list and with minutes to spare I downloaded the songs I didn’t already have and headed to the venue. All good….so far.

I was a very disciplined DJ and would always check music for quality and to make sure everything was ok before starting a set and 99.9% of the time everything was fine so although it made me a little nervous that I did not have the time to do so this time I wasn’t overly concerned….what’s the worst that could happen right? The service was lovely and everything went swimmingly and then it was time for the first dance. I got on the mic and introduced the happy couple and waited while they took their places on the dance balls ready for their first dance which was to be to Fleetwood Mac’s Big Love. I pressed the play button and within seconds I knew that the song I had downloaded was mislabelled, and so it was not the song they requested but, to make the horror even worse, the song that played instead was…..Chris Rea’s Road to Hell.
