There are places I remember

I’ve been a little quiet over the last few days for a number of reasons. SL going down as I was about to do some work, RL needing to drive around the country trying to find a plumbing part so my en suite bathroom would work again, and watching a lot of the news from my home city, London.

Not just my home city but the specific area of London that I spent much of my childhood. My grandmother and my great grandmother both lived in North Kensington. My grandmother worked for a furniture upholsterer in Latimer Road.  That whole area around Latimer Road, Wood Lane, North Pole Road, White City is an area I knew like the back of my hand 30 years ago. My great grandmother passed on and my grandmother moved out to the country, so it’s an area I’ve not been back to you in a long while. I was so distraught to see the images coming from that part of London the last few days. The stories are heartbreaking, and being the daughter of a firefighter, I truly understand the effect this horrendous incident is going to have on those who have been into that building to try find any signs of life, only to be met with images akin to a horror movie.

Again, as a Brit, and a Londoner, I am truly proud of the response of people of all faiths, colours, creeds and beliefs as they have come together to support those made homeless. Kensington and Chelsea is a picture postcard part of London but it is also home to many of the poorest people in London society and many of the people that left those flats that night did so in the clothes they stood up, with no insurance on the contents of their homes. The response from others has overwhelmed the volunteers trying to reclothe and rehome.

I love London, it is the greatest city on earth in my opinion, full of the most amazing, culturally diverse and supportive people in the world.

My home in SL is on the Notting Hill sims, owned and landscaped by Elvi Hartley (highly recommend looking at these if you need a parcel btw). My photo today is of my outdoor patio area at my home. After all the news of the last few days this is my sanctuary and my favourite part of my home.
