Them There Eyes

I’m not going to be talking too much today. Aside from having lots on I have been unwell with a nasty stomach bug (which you really don’t want details on, trust me). I had gone to be around 6.30pm last night as I was already starting to feel poorly. I woke around 4am to get some water and took a quick look at my Facebook page to see the outrage and anger over the new Flickr rules.

If you haven’t seen it already Flickr is changing its rule on groups and now photos can only be added to thirty (30) groups if you’re a non-Pro user and sixty (60) if you are a pro. Now, under normal circumstances I would be tempted to go Pro, it’s something I’ve thought about quite a few times but at present Flickr is completely unreliable as a platform. I’m not willing to spend money on something that is faulty…and it’s often faulty. Regular Flickr users are sick of seeing the ‘Bad Panda’ and there have been huge periods of complete downtime and periods of anomalies in views/faves when pictures don’t seem to be showing up.

At the moment I think it’s on all of us a community to give back by more studiously following people on our feeds and relying more on the people we follow and who follow us.  It’s going to take trial and error to find the groups that have real value and unfortunately, it’s going to cause the end of some of the smaller, more niche groups.  I also think there is a chance that we’ll see an increase in bumping photos for views.  We’ll have to see how it all plays out. Maybe feeds will make a comeback
