Photoshop introduced the sky replacement tool a little while back but recently I’ve been using another plug in for Photoshop called Luminar AI...I have to say I love it! It’s far more intuitive than Photoshop and has a lot more options. Overall I think the end effect is brilliant. But….and it’s a big butt….I feel like a bit of a cheat too. That’s not a SL sky. Everything else, aside from the png birds in the background and the sky are SL and the photo overall is created in SL but the sky is not. While the items in the photo are gorgeous and the sky is a merely a backdrop, I do feel that the gorgeous sky really pops the photo.
I thought about this today during a conversation about Artbreeder. I watched Anya Ohmai’s video about Artbreeder and I’ve played around with it a little bit myself over the weekend. It does produce stunning results but….and it’s another big but….they are not SL images and certainly the one I produced did not look enough like my avatar, or SL, for me to feel comfortable with it.
I think over the next weeks or months there will be some lively discussion in SL, especially for bloggers, on what is acceptable and what is not, regarding photographic enhancements. Will Artbreeder portraits became as much of as a faux pas as morphs. Will changing the sky as I have done in this photo became unacceptable.
