SL Calendar Girls Update

After weeks of thinking, mulling over options and discussions with friends and family I have decided that I want to bring back SL Calendar Girls from 1st February. The group is now open for submissions on Flickr but I would really appreciate you taking a few minutes to read this post.

I always enjoyed doing the groups and the monthly selections but it had become a very time consuming  project. Most of the time the benefits outweighed the downsides. Fortunately thanks to the support of some wonderful friends I think we can find a way to bring the SL Calendar Girls back online.

I really miss seeing all the photos that are submitted and I am hoping with a few changes I can manage the process with less stress.

I wanted to explain a little about the process I will be adopting and why.

1. All photos, unless they are obviously in the wrong group, will be accepted in the first instance into the pool. I have always done it this way, even before Flickr started to inform people of whether a photo was rejected or not. The reason I do it this way is because I want to see the image in full size before deciding whether to keep it in the pool. The thumbnails just aren’t big enough for me to see the quality and detail.
2. To keep things manageable for the selection process at the start of the month even stricter quality criteria will be applied. I am going to be reviewing the pool for the selection weekly instead of monthly and hopefully this will help reduce the burden at the start of each month.
3. Yes, the selection process is subjective. There are no hard and fast rules and at the end of the day it is a list of my personal favourite photos that makes it on to the blog.
4. I would love to have the time to answer messages and provide tips on photography, or give a response to why photos haven’t been included but I honestly don’t. I highly recommend Swain’s Photography group on Facebook for advice on SL photography.  I have also produced a short video on the importance of View Angle for SL Photos and it’s impact. Any messages on any platform regarding this subject will not be answered.

I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone’s art in the group.
