If You Can’t Say Anything Nice…Don’t Say Anything At All

There’s been a series of essays produced for a radio show that I listen to while I’m at work called ‘Being Human‘. People from actors to philosophers are asked ‘What Makes Us Human?’ and their essay is delivered on the radio and then discussed with the host of the show. It’s fascinating to hear all the aspects of behaviour that these people argue are the key elements to what makes us different from other animals.

“To err is human, to forgive, divine” Alexander Pope, Essay on Criticism

We make decisions every day on how to behave in our lives . Wouldn’t it be simple if we could input a number of factors to our head and it ran an algorithm and spewed out a cold hard decision completely uninfluenced by emotions? It might be simple but the thought of that is quite horrific. We would not longer be human. The joy and pain of being human is those influencing factors…our desires, our love, our pride and every memory and feeling that has gone before all factor into our decisions. Sometimes we get it right, sometimes we get it wrong.

Unless you have never left your house, never interacted with another human being, never spoken to another soul in your life then you have hurt someone at some point. Sometimes it’s unavoidable. Unless you’re some kind of monster it’s not what you set out to do but it happens. We’ve all been hurt and we’ve all hurt others at some point. If you’re reading that and nodding, congratulations, you’re human and no human is perfect.

Opinions! Opinions! Opinions! Another totally human trait. Everyone has a right to an opinion but how you express it says a lot about you as a human being (in my opinion…see what I did there?). Take for example a third party who chooses to express a vehemently toxic opinion about another person’s relationship (this never happens in SL surely?). Experience has shown me that there really are only two people that know the exact details of what goes on with a relationship and while it’s human to develop an opinion based on what you do know, or think you know,  a wise woman (or man) knows that they don’t know much at all. Maybe a wise person takes that on board and keeps their opinion to themselves? I know I would. Maybe in a fit of pique and anger someone decides to share this ill-informed opinion with others via social media, gossip or as I see all too often through their SL profile. As I said, I’m not perfect, I’ve done this exact thing in a fit of rage but after a couple of days I realised how poorly this reflected on me and I removed it.  Imagine how bitter, petty and toxic it sounds to still be banging on about something in your profile, that you weren’t even involved in directly, based on gossip and assumptions 12 months on.  My point…how you express an opinion says more about you than you might realise. It can also makes you look like a fool…and nothing is less attractive than a bitter, stupid, fool. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

About the Stuff:

C88….how I love thee and hate thee at the same time! I jest! I love you….honestly…it’s my credit card that looks daggers at you on the 8th of each month!. I’m wearing a 4 piece outfit from Fashionably Dead that comes in two parts. The top comes with the bra and sheer top (in tucked and loose versions) and the other half of the set comprises pants and the skirt.  I really struggled with choosing a colour for this as they are all fabulous and I suspect I’ll be going back for a couple more before the end of the round.

As always C88 rocks for hair and as an Oasis superfan I had already fallen in love with Exile’s Morning Glory before I even placed it on my pixel scalp so it was perfection to me that it looked so fabulous, as well as having a brilliant name.

Completing my C88 look are the Taylor booties from fri.day available in 8 colours and a fatpack. I’m wearing the ‘buck’ colour with this outfit and I love how the open toe on these makes them the perfect summer boot/shoe to go with pretty much any pants, shorts or skirts combo.

Lastly, and definitely not least are the poses from the talented Tracy Redangel of GingerFish Poses. I’ve used poses from two different pose packs Curves and Euphoria. Posepacks come not only with mirrors but often with alternatives for curvier avatars and all designed to work perfectly with mesh bodies and are available to buy on Marketplace only.
