To Blog or Not to Blog…That is the Question

Snapshot_003

During the SL13B SL Blogger Support Meet the Community session an interesting topic of conversation came up about whether the ‘traditional’ SL blog has had it’s day and whether Flickr is now the only way to blog. I’m going to address this a little today from my point of view as a blogger. I will be writing a guest article for SL Blogger Support soon in which I will probably touch on this subject from a Blogger Manager point of view.

I started this blog as a way to keep myself and my mind occupied during an extremely difficult personal time. It was the place for me to share my thoughts and feelings while having the added bonus of developing my photographic skills and forcing me to try and put some ‘order’ to my thoughts at the time.  The feedback I got from people was immediate and immense. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve been told that people enjoying reading my blog and I am always grateful for the feedback. Of course, I love photography and use Flickr to help promote my blog but with everything I do I try to push traffic back to the blog. I want to engage with people here via comments and I can use the stats provided in WordPress to see what I’m doing right and what I could improve on.  I also write in detail about any new items included in each post (as you will see below) and while I can do all of these things just on Flickr it just doesn’t feel the same.  Writing on here for the people that follow and read the blog just feels more intimate…like a two-way relationship and Flickr feels more like just throwing myself out there en masse. I also feel that Flickr is, or should be, more about just the picture. It is, after all, a photography forum and not a writing forum.

When I share to Flickr I do so with a small excerpt from the opening paragraph of my post in the hope that people will be intrigued enough to click through and read the rest of the post and I’ve found this has been relatively successful.  When I share to Facebook and Facebook groups I only put the blog link and not the Flickr link.  This all means I probably blog less than I could if I only used Flickr but it’s a time price worth paying in my opinion.

About the Stuff

Summerfest is still causing waves of excitement for me and hasn’t disappointed in being of the best annual events on the Second Life grid and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying decorating my home with the wares available! There are several items in the feature pic from the event and I’ve been delighted how they have all worked so well together.  Can’t Even have the cutest original artwork pieces on sale at Summerfest in beautiful bright summer colours and perfect for a boho/rustic summer decor indoors or out.  Eku from Culprit is bringing the fun to the party again with the FuzzyWuzzy Azarashi which comes in a mount or rez version. The rez version is full of animations to get you cuddled and snuggled with your beach pet and though it looks really mean jumping on his cute lil back is just too much fun….he’s so squidgy!

Jian has a super finned school of sharks available to frenzy up the waters of the coast of my house…I’ve not spotted any blood in the water yet but with the sharks swimming about it may not be too long! The sharks themselves are highly detailed original mesh and come in a range of static and moving versions. I’ve decorated my lil beach house with lighting from +Half-Deer+. The Ice Cream garlands have two lighting elements – the ice creams themselves and  a separate set of lights which can both be switched on and off independently.

Last but not least from Summerfest is the high-buoy dresser from Second Spaces that looks perfect in my beach retreat and the finishing touch from Commoner to show off pics of my friends larking about on the beach!
