I woke up just 10 mins ago with the Golden Earring classic “Twilight Zone” in my head. Specifically:

The lyrics are a little different in my head with ‘twilight’ being replaced by the word ‘friendship’ . I guess it’s been on my mind a little about how you move a more intimate relationship back to being friends and where you draw the line. If you’re the person that decided the relationship would no longer work but you both decide to remain friends it’s a fine line between being a friend and giving the other person too much hope that you will change your mind and give the relationship another go. Sometimes the latter is as out of your control and you have to put some space between you for the sake of both parties.
I know being friendzoned isn’t a great feeling, especially if you have found yourself with feelings for someone. It happens to all of us at some point and it’s gutting when you feel like a connection you have with someone could be so much more given time and then you’re suddenly and quite obviously friendzoned it stings. You almost have to decide if you need to put that space between you and the ‘crush’ in the same way I described above. Just because they’ve decided the friend zone is the safest place for you both doesn’t mean you can accept that immediately and with grace.
