A Smile Is a Curve That Sets Everything Straight

I’m a book reader. I read every night before I go to sleep. No matter how tired I am I have to read at least a page of a book to help me unwind and replace all the muddle of other stuff in my head with a story I can get lost in.  It’s rarely anything particularly challenging at that time of night, usually just a crime novel by Patricia Cornwall or James Patterson.  Last night, I read the line “a smile is a curve that sets everything straight”. I started to think about how true that was as I drifted off to sleep. I’ve always been a believer in a positive mental attitude and, I’ve worked for many years in situations that have required a lot of time using phones and voice to communicate and one of the first things I was told was to smile when you answer the phone.  It sounds so corny but it really does work. A smile diffuses situations, eases tension and most of all it makes YOU, the smiler, feel better.
