I posted a blog yesterday called ‘Not Today’ and it was almost a premonition. I normally post first thing in the morning, my morning, but today I looked at Flickr first thing and thought ‘oh dear, not today’. Pictures weren’t loading, comments weren’t loading…it was a mess. Now, I haven’t tried to post to Flickr yet so who knows it might still be f**ked…technical term there.
Flickr has had a host of issues since the move away from Yahoo but there certainly isn’t a viable alternative yet that is fit for purpose for Second Life photographers and bloggers. I am using Instagram now too but it doesn’t have the large SL community that Flickr does so it’s not really practical to only use Instagram yet. Who knows, once the transition is completed maybe Flickr will be better than ever. Maybe I’m just an optimist?

I like Flickr and they will be OK once they’ve done the changeover but I share your frustration because I get the same thing. What I do is to try later on in the day and check their outages frequently – https://downdetector.com/status/flickr/map/ – do camera into that map as it shows the individual cities and towns, it’s quite helpful.. Frequently reloads are also helpful and a large cup of coffee or your favourite drink *laughs*. When all else fails, I do the Flickr marketing the next day knowing that the situation won’t last forever.
There’s a huge community on there and it’s not just us virtual folks but RL photographers who also ‘add’ us and make great friends in my experience! It all goes to getting those ‘likes’ and ‘views’ otherwise SL can be a very insular community.
