I’m a big fan of the 90’s – especially the music. I love alternative rock from the 90s and when I picked up the Lithium dress from Dead Dollz it got me thinking about how much has changed since then. A lot of the better, a lot for the worse. In the 90s I got married, lost my mum, had my children, worked a full-time job while doing all that. I didn’t ask anyone for help and I had no expectations of anyone.
This led on from a conversation I was having with a designer in Second Life about entitlement. I had joked, although semi-seriously, that a lot of people would enjoy their SL’s a lot more if they got over this air of entitlement they have… we’re not entitled to have free gifts from stores (unless a sign-up fee indicates a number of group gifts a month/year), or free updates, or free anything from anyone. We’re not entitled to sales, discounts or every item made to fit the body, head or add-on that you choose to wear. We’re entitled to get what you paid for and nothing else. We’re not even entitled to redeliveries. If I buy something and lose it, delete it, or I log in tomorrow to no inventory, that’s not on the store I bought the items from. Yes, it’s nice if we get all those other things from our favourite stores or designers but it’s not an entitlement. All these things are optional customer service and/or marketing/promotional incentives to gain loyalty and repeat business. It’s smart business.
Maybe I’m turning into one of these old women that complains ‘it was never like that in my day’ but really, I do think, the more we get from designers the more some of us expect. Designers keep raising the bar to appease customers and then we just raise it higher and higher again.
What I am blogging today:
New hair from Stealthic is always a highlight. I’ve been playing around with his reds more and trying out some shades I don’t normally wear and I love them. He re-did his tones a while back and they are stunning so if you haven’t tried Stealthic in a while I suggest you give them a go!
The dress as I mentioned is from Dead Dollz and available at the Grunge themed round of Anthem. It comes in two parts, the dress and the top and I loved this pretty green and purple mix. Anthem is only open for a few more days so head over quickly and snap it up!
