“Illusion is the First of All Pleasures”

One of the things I love about my ‘jobs’ in Second Life is getting to explore and visit places in Second Life. Usually that’s because I am scouting for photo spots but yesterday myself and the team at MadPea went on a Field Trip. We were looking for some new sims and decided to go and check out some mainland sims. Gosh…it’s like going back in time 10 years! Looking around the at the dated textures, prims, buildings and just general ‘carnage’ I found myself asking ‘why!!!’. I’ve seen tidier sandboxes. But is that what mainland is? A giant sandbox with no daily clean up? People complain that mainland is laggy and while my viewer slowed a little I didn’t have too many lag issues but I think the bigger issue is mainland is ugly. Now, I know that is a huge generalisation, after all I only visited 6 sims, but my eyes cannot unsee! I’m also aware that in the sailing sims areas of the Blake Sea that are mainland there are some gorgeous sims that people have spent a lot of time working on for the sailing fraternity of SL.

I’m so thankful to all the creators in Second Life of the gorgeous or unusual sims and places to visit. Most of these sims are subsidised by their owners and they allow us to visit out of a generosity and a desire to share the beauty of SL with a wider audience.

I found this hidden gem today via the destination guide. Havendale Village. The sim describes itself as:

Fun & magical fantasy-themed sim with homes, games, hangouts, and shopping. Family friendly and welcomes role-players to live their magical lifestyles. Quidditch and Hogsmeade for Harry Potter role-players.

They also have a wordpress site which I’m going to be following with interest! You can find the blog here

I’ve been looking forward for WEEKS to the opening of Illusion Point which is a brand new fantasy shopping event. To keep things fresh each round they alternate the stores taking part which has the added bonus of taking some pressure off the participating creators too. The event opens at midnight today and I was lucky enough to receive a couple of review copies of items.

The mesh dress and corset I’m wearing is from *Figment* and comes in 5 fabric colour options with the gold and silver corset in each pack and is available from tomorrow at the event for L$150…can you say bargain? yups!

I did have a little giggle at the name of these jewelry items from the ever-talented Cae. Sebastian!

This matching earrings and necklace set comes separately or in a pack and comes with a multitude of options via a hud to change the pearls, stones and metal textures. The set together is L$395 and considering the opportunities you have to match this with any item of clothing then that’s another steal right there!

These and lots more can be found from Midnight today at Illusion Point.

  1. I love the title of this. I too like to find unusual and interesting sims. As for illusion, I won’t go into that one- I’m trying to lose some of mine lol!

Awwww, yay! You’re blogging Illusion Point too, that’s wonderful! And I’m soooooo with you on the travesty that is Mainland. I bought myself a tiny Mainland parcel to use as a private dressing room, but I’d still rather hang at a premium sandbox because they’re so much less laggy. Would love to see LL bequeath some of the vast spanses of abandoned land to one of SL’s amazing builders, and let them go wild creating gorgeous new places to visit. Would definitely breathe life back into what feels like dying, dilapidated continents!
