To say that I have been overwhelmed with the response to my post ‘5 Signs That You Might Be in an SL Relationship with a Narcissist‘ would be the understatement of the year! I’ve been contacted in world, on facebook and through the blog by people in varying stages of the same kind of relationship. Some of the situations people are in have made me weep and some have made me happy that those people also extracted themselves from the mental grip of their abuser.
I don’t use that term lightly. Abuse, be it rl or sl, emotional or physical is disgusting and it’s a powerful and highly emotive word. I use that word because I want other people who maybe haven’t experienced that level of narcissism to understand that we are not talking here about someone that can be a little bit manipulative in a relationship. Hell, we can ALL be a little manipulative in a relationship to get our own way. What most of us don’t do is use lies, manipulation and verbal powerplays to undermine and destroy the self-esteem of the person we allegedly love.
Quite a few people have specifically asked me about a term I used in the original post…Gaslighting. I will write more on the subject in the future but for now I have listed a few sources of information for those interested in finding out more.
This weekend is going to be a trial of sorts for me…there’s a significant anniversary date this weekend but as I get closer to it and in no small part, thanks to the support I received from the blog post, I know I am going to be ok. I fought against many a demon in my head for the last 6 months I can sure as hell fight against a date on a calendar.

You can do it!!! I just realized yesterday that I forgot about my 5-year anniversary of freedom (ie – our divorce became official) earlier this week. For the last several years, my previous wedding anniversary has passed by unnoticed. It does take time to undo the damage, but it can be done. YOU are worth the effort!
