Making a Difference in Second Life

Earlier this year I had the pleasure and honour of hosting a very important event in Second Life. The MadPea Celebrity Auction. When I think back at the names we had give up their time and offer their services, products and time for the event I still glow with pride to be part of such an amazing event.

There are many untold stories from behind the scenes. Things that went better than expected, things that didn’t go quite to plan and Kiana and I, quite tipsy by then, tried our hardest to make it look seamless through those times. It really was the highlight of my year for a number of reasons.

  1. We exceeded our target and raised a staggering 1.7 million L$ in a little under 48 hours. Resulting in the building of classroom 3 at the Live and Learn in Kenya school.
  2. We brought together a diverse range of performers, creators and artists in a common goal and proved what we all knew, that the generosity of Second Life residents knows no bounds.
  3. On a personal note I made new friends.

There were so many creative, talented and amazing people up for auction that I was completely blown away when someone bid over L$40k on me. I’ll admit I felt a lot of pressure initially to ‘deliver’ for this person after they spent so much. A few days later I had my first conversation with the winning bidder and I was to be blown away again by the kindness of her soul that just came shining through in every sentence. I have had the pleasure of many a conversation with Bibs since that day and she continues to astound me with her wise words, her kindness and her depth of love for the people she cares for. We’ve never hung out in SL (yet), just chatted in IM’s and on facebook but this is one quietly, modestly, amazing woman. As I write this on Sunday evening, ready to publish on Monday morning, she’s celebrating her Rez Day in Second Life.

6th December is the anniversary of the day I married, in Second Life, the person I have referred to in my previous posts about narcissists. (Let’s call him Voldemort…I do). I have been quite anxious for weeks about how I would feel about today but after chatting with Bibs yesterday I realised that I shouldn’t let him control how I feel today. I shouldn’t focus on someone that doesn’t deserve my thoughts and feelings. So, today I am focussing on the highlight of this year….the MadPea Celebrity Auction and meeting someone that does deserve my wishes and thought, the gorgeously beautiful spirit that is Bibs.

So, on to the look of the day. It’s a Flapper special!! Yesterday I dj’d at the Gangsters and Molls party at !Exodus! Rock Club and this was the outfit I put together. I had to share it because I didn’t want to take it off.
