It’s the Most Wonderstress Time of the Year

I know I am not alone in finding the pressure piled on as we approach the Christmas season. In real life there is the shopping for presents and food, making sure the house is ready for the impending guests. There’s work parties, secret santa gifts, food to prepare ahead of time, cards to write, gifts to wrap. It’s easy to feel like you’re drowning under a sea of festive preparations.

And, here we are, in Second Life, duplicating all that stress and anxiety and adding SL pressures to the pot. I have certainly been feeling like I have been spreading myself too thin all year and that is magnified tenfold with the added pressure of this time of year.  Saturday was a very busy day for me as I prepared for my favourite event of the year…my clubs Staff Christmas Party and Awards. I’m a ‘to do’ list maker and I started the day by writing every task down that I needed to complete in both worlds. On Sunday morning when I looked at the list I had completed everything I needed to do on the SL list and not a single thing on the RL list. So, now on top of the stress I’ve just piled a heap of guilt on to my anxieties.

I rectified that on Sunday by completing all the RL tasks to get me up to date but it did make me consider how much I allow SL ‘jobs’ to dictate how I divide up my time. I believe it’s important to take my SL responsibilities seriously but when I realised on Sunday how much I had prioritised them over RL ones it did make me stop and seriously think.

As we had into the last few days before Christmas I am going to have to find a little more balance in my lives that’s for sure.

I’ll certainly be taking a couple of the days off work over the festive period to catch up on some blogging because I’ve been missing sharing my thoughts and shopping with you over the last week. One of the reasons I’ve been so busy has been the launch of The Ghost Town. This is the free to play game by MadPea produced specifically for the Firestorm Gateway. If you have ever wanted to try a MadPea now is your chance to give one a go with no outlay and amazing prizes from SL’s top creators and designers. I’m wearing the gorgeous Ruffle Dress from United Colors (double checks she wrote that correctly just for Roman :P) which is just one of the prizes available to all residents, new and old and regardless of what viewer you use.

See a full list of prizes on the MadPea blog.
