A Bun in the Oven

Today is going well so far and completely to plan. Most of the house is clean and tidy, the last lot of laundry is in the dryer, I’ve lit the Christmas candles and the scent of vanilla and nutmeg is dancing delightfully around the house with the aroma of the cinnamon swirl buns I have baking in the oven (I’m so grateful I decided to bake them before the sausage rolls, it would have been a completely different opening to the blog post). For now at least I have complete peace and quiet as I await the arrival of the parental unit and his wife later this afternoon.

I’ve always been quite open, when asked at least, that I have faith and believe in God. Though I was raised as a Catholic I have, over the years, developed my own thoughts on what faith and Christianity mean to me and they are very often poles apart from the teachings of the Catholic church. I won’t go into the details but I think most people who know me know that I have quite liberal ideas on subjects such as women’s rights, contraception, gay marriage etc. Regardless of my thoughts on the doctrines of the faith I was baptised into are, this time of year is very special to me not only as a time to enjoy the company of my family, but also to remember what the spirit of Christmas is for me within my faith.

Whatever faith you have, whatever you believe or don’t, whatever you celebrate and whenever you do I wish a happy holidays and a safe and peaceful 2017
