Underestimation

Nothing spurs me on more than being told I can’t do something. When I was around 10 years old my father and his watch crew (he was a firefighter) did a sponsored walk in the New Forest. I said I wanted to do and was told that I couldn’t. It was too far and I’d never finish and would hold other people up. I can still remember the feeling of steely resolve that tightened in my stomach at that exact. Yes, I can do it. No, I won’t fail. You Just watch me!

I remember struggling. I did find it hard for the last couple of miles but I damn well did it and I also still remember the sense of achievement that I got from doing it.

I quite like when people underestimate me, it’s preferable to the opposite, and leaves me room to impress (should I wish to), or to just sit back and watch them make a fool of themselves. I see the latter on an almost daily basis from certain individuals of late. The really amusing thing is, one or two of them still don’t realise how much they have underestimated me, but time will be the only educator for them and I’ve got lots of that and the patience to match.
