I Live for the Light of Truth

There are so many wonderful and beautiful things in life that are free…yet still come at a cost. Love and Honesty. These things can all be given freely but usually come at a cost too and no small amount of risk. I may see life through rose-tinted glasses…or even petals and leaves today…but I believe those two go completely hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other. I am in love, I have been in love for a long time but I now find myself not knowing the person I am in love with. I fell in love with a persona, an image that person allowed me to see, a side of their personality and I fell hard. I want to believe that the persona I fell in love with was the real person, or at least, the person they aspired to be. But the truth is I will never know. Just as I will never know if their feelings for me were a ‘fantasy’ or their true emotions.

The truth hurts…sometimes…but honesty will never leave the trail of emotional devastation in it’s wake that lies do. Just one lie…one half-truth brings the whole house of cards crashing down. I went to the wedding of my niece on Saturday and the reading was The Gift of Love from Corinthians. This part resonated with me:

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I have always valued truth and honesty. I like to think that I try to treat others as I would expect to be treated. I love far too deeply and have the scars to prove it but that is part of who I am. I’ve lost so much already that I don’t want to lose myself.
