There’s been an incident this week of someone passing off, or seemingly attempting to pass off, someone else’s photographs as their own work by re-posting pictures to flickr under their own name. For some reason the people that do this pick on the photographers whose work and style of photography is very easily noticeable and most well recognised. As bloggers we look to share our work with as many as possible through social media and while we can watermark or put our names on our pictures it’s still simple to download someones work and share it.
I had an example this week when I was searching for some gacha items on Marketplace and came across someone using one of my images to promote a gacha set they had for sale. I would have found this quite flattering if they had a) actually asked me and b) credited my work. They did neither.
It’s becoming increasingly more important that we take note of the settings of our pictures when we post them to Flickr. There has been a crackdown lately on the safety level, which I indeed got caught up in, and it’s extremely time consuming and frustrating tidying up after (a lot more so than taking a few minutes to ensure the correct safety level at the time of posting). Caity Tobias wrote a series of posts about getting the most from posting on Flickr for SL Blogger Support and if you haven’t done and you regularly use Flickr it’s well worth a read.

With the many tools available, they will be able to remove the watermarks and still claim them as their own. All you can do is hope that this doesn’t happen and file a dmca if your content is stolen
