Living in a Box

The title of the blog is definitely a reference to the picture and not how I am feeling, or what I am going to write about. In fact, quite the opposite. I will tell you more about the location for this picture in a few minutes but first I want to talk about the pre-Christmas weekend I had and a few things that I thought about quite a bit over the last few days.

We have all seen the memes or phrases about taking note of people’s actions rather than their words. Now, personally, I don’t think it’s as black and white as that because sometimes people can’t articulate what they want to say for numerous reasons. Sometimes the opposite is true and they find it easier to talk about things about very difficult to demonstrate them. Sometimes they demonstrate their feelings in a very passive aggressive way. Sometimes peoples nonchalance is just that…they just don’t care and sometimes we read too much into peoples actions and they are really just busy or completely unaware of the effect of their actions.

On the flip side we have also all seen the memes that remind us that everyone is fighting their own battles and we should be kind to everyone. This is especially relevant at this time of year when the stress of families coming together mixed with, often, a fair amount of alcohol, can test even the most patient of people.

This weekend we had the reunion/Christmas party for my old club in Second Life…!Exodus! The club was active on the grid from 2010 to 2015 and for over 5 years was super successful. Pretty much for the whole of the last year my heart just wasn’t in it and as anyone who owns a club in Second Life will tell you they are money pits. Realising you are just spending ££££’s of your rl money on something you don’t even enjoy anymore leaves you, eventually, with only one option. We had a close knit team of staff and vips and several people over the course of the last year suggested a reunion. In all fairness, I just wasn’t ready for it at any point until the idea of a Christmas Party came to me. I’m so glad we did it. For One Night only !Exodus! was alive and buzzing again and full of the people that I cared for and who had become my friends. It felt like the place I had loved for so many years. A few have asked me whether it made me want to reopen and the honest answer is absolutely not. I enjoyed the evening tremendously but that was enough for me for a while. I may do something over the summer but if not I will promise to do another Christmas Party next year too!

I said that I would talk a bit about the location for the photo today. The sim La Digue du Braek captivated me when I visited yesterday. It’s the sister sim of Furilien that I have featured on the blog in the past. It’s based on the real life area close to Dunkirk in France where heavy industrial areas are close to a beautiful windswept beach and having looked at a lot of pictures of the real life area the recreation in Second Life is spot on! Well worth a visit!
