Why is honesty such a difficulty for a large number of people online? Now, there are several degrees of deceit, a spectrum if you will. It seems to me that sometimes people want to please so they tell you what they think you want to hear. We can call them white lies and I think that many people do this without even realising a) that they are doing it and b) the impact that maintaining those lies can have. Some people aren’t honest because they want to keep certain aspects of their real life to themselves. We all want a certain level of anonymity online and it’s our right to do so but personally I’d rather someone said that they don’t feel comfortable revealing information rather than making up ‘alternative facts’.
Over my years on SL I’ve encountered untruths at both ends of the spectrum from people who have faked their own rl deaths to dating someone for a year who lied about almost every aspect of their real life, right down to their real first name, to what I’ve almost come to consider low level lying about whether they are an alt or single in either life. How can we trust people online when such a large number of people can’t manage to be straight, direct and honest?
About the Stuff:
MINIMAL has been expanding their product range recently coming up with a couple of awesome clothing lines and a great range of photography backdrops. There’s are 4 new backgrounds available at the latest round of Uber which opened on Saturday.
I loved the KITJA offerings at Uber too with this hooded jacket being one of them. It’s available in a range of light pastel colours as well as mono colours. Each jacket comes with a hud to change the metal textures and there is a net style top that sits underneath which can also be coloured changed or removed (as shown). It comes in fits for Belleza Freya and Isis, Slink Hourglass and Original and Maitreya Lara (worn)
The pants are from Lapointe and Bastchild who join Uber for this round with a very detailed and multi-functional pants pack. L & B are one of the most value for money designers on the grid. These pants come with a hud that’s jam packed with options under the 4 change tabs there are:
- Metals – 5 options to change the metal textures
- Leather – 13 different leather textures
- Leather Mix – 11 different options to mix leathers on various parts of the pants
- Denim Mix – 12 options to mix leather and denim on the pants
In addition the pants come in classic mesh fit, Belleza Freya, Isis and Venus, Slink Original and Hourglass and Maitreya Lara.

Oh
I know all about this kind of thing.
I’ve been involved in the last year with someone SL famous who makes lovely sims and well known for it. Seems like the kind of guy you would take home to introduce.
I found out from an ex of his , he has 11 Alts.
The untruths are simply amazing. The women involved also amazing.
I’m honest and myself as frankly I can’t tell a lie consistently to save my life.
But I’ve learnt that some people are quite professional at it, like the dude I subtlety refer to. Or rather not so subtley.
People have many reasons for being in sl and I totally respect a RL and privacy. But being honest about the need to keep your privacy is acceptable totally.
But be honest about it.
Lies are a dangerous game which can have devastating affects on the people they are told to. After all we can’t be sure the person on the other side of the screens curcumstancesand so frankly we all have a duty of care when communicating with the people we encounter.
Hope this isn’t something affecting you right now

I’m sorry to hear that Isa…no it’s not something affecting me right now other than a minor fib from someone that made me giggle more than be angry. But, you’re right there are some real pro liars out there in Second Life
