Get on your Bike

There’s been a tv programme this week that everyone has been talking about! We’ve all been waiting with baited breath to find out the fate of our favourites…yes! It was the final of the Great British Bake Off! I’m actually watching it now as I write this and while I will probably know who the winner is I won’t give it a away. I’m sure you’re all glued to your TV’s too. It’s probably going to be the last time I watch it as from next year the GBBO moves tv channels after Channel 4 bought the rights to it for 75 million pound much to the uproar of fans. You see the BBC is a great British institution – advert free TV that we all pay toward and feel like we all own a little of. The thing is, 3 out of the 4 hosts of the TV programme that make it such as a success have declined to move with the format to the new station. Channel 4 appear to have paid 75 million pound for a format, a tent in a field and Paul Hollywood. The loss of the presenters, and fellow judge Mary Berry must have them concerned….I mean, look what happened to Top Gear once the three musketeers of Clarkson, Hammond and May left. There are examples of where the lead people/public face of an organisation can change and they go from success to success but those examples are few and far between.

Even in SL the people involved with an organisation, and their reputation and likeability is important it makes or breaks the business. Often we don’t even know who the true personalities are behind our favourite SL brands, even more so these days when many creators work in teams with different people working on different aspects of the creation process. I did see this a lot with the SL club scene when I was running a club though too. The person at the top, and their behaviour, especially in open forums likes facebook is vital to the brands reputation. One of my jobs in SL is to help stores and creators manage their brand presence on social media to ensure that whatever, or whoever, they are presenting to the SL world does so in a way that enhances the brand perception. Everyone wants their brand to be top of mind when residents are looking to spend their L$ but being top of mind for the right reasons is even more important.
